Fresh Retail Experience in Limpopo

Groblersdal Mall in Limpopo is undergoing a significant redevelopment, poised to become a modern, shopper-friendly destination that grows alongside its community.

The project, led by Twin City in partnership with Patricio & Sons, will see the 37,000sqm mall fully refurbished by November 2025. Key upgrades include a redesigned food court, an enhanced tenant mix, and a refreshed brand identity that honors the region’s agricultural roots.

This redevelopment marks a major investment in the area, creating new permanent jobs while sustaining over 1,000 existing positions.

Construction began in February 2025.

“Our investment builds on the excellent foundation of an extremely popular and successful centre. Our vision is to ensure it evolves with the needs of the people it serves and retail trends, to genuinely serve the retail needs of Groblersdal and its surrounds, while also offering a real sense of place,” says Ryno de Leeuw, CEO of Twin City.

“We are excited to add to the strong major national tenant base at the mall, invest in high-quality contemporary design and continue to provide the community with a space that resonates with their lives and values – one they can always feel proud of.”

Design Partnership spearheaded the redesign, drawing inspiration from Groblersdal’s agricultural heritage. The architecture features warm tones, natural textures, and greenery, fostering a welcoming atmosphere where visitors can relax and connect. The rebranding, under the theme “Rooted in Groblersdal, Growing Together,” merges contemporary aesthetics with a local, friendly vibe.

The revamped mall introduces Checkers as a new grocery anchor, while Woolworths expands to include a Woolworths Food store, complementing the existing Spar. Dis-Chem is also enlarging its space to meet shopper demand.

The food court is being transformed into a vibrant social hub, complete with a play area, seating zones, and water features. New food vendors will enhance the dining experience, making the mall a go-to destination beyond shopping. Additional upgrades include modernized restrooms, integrated landscaping, and free WiFi, alongside sustainable energy solutions like solar panels.

To minimize disruption, all retailers will remain open throughout construction.

Supporting Community Growth

Adjacent to the mall, Little Warriors Preschool, operated by the Twin City Foundation, continues to thrive. Since opening in 2019, it now educates over 200 children aged six months to six years and employs 13 staff members. The school underscores Twin City’s commitment to holistic community development.

“More than a shopping destination, the redeveloped Groblersdal Mall is enhancing a vibrant community hub where people can connect, unwind and enjoy a high-quality retail experience in a setting that reflects their values and way of life,” adds de Leeuw.

With a blend of national retailers and local charm, the revitalized Groblersdal Mall aims to delight shoppers when it reopens in November 2025.
