France , Britain suggested one-month partial truce for Ukraine following recent tensions between Trump
France and Britain are advocating for a one-month partial truce between Russia and Ukraine, which would exclude ground combat, as said by French President Emmanuel Macron in an interview with Le Figaro on March 2.
The proposed truce aims to halt attacks on air, sea, and energy infrastructure.
Macron emphasized the challenges of verifying compliance along the front lines, which he likened to the distance between Paris and Budapest.
He made these remarks while en route to London for a ” summit “with European leaders, organized by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine.
This meeting followed a tumultuous encounter between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.
Macron indicated that under the Franco-British initiative, the deployment of European ground troops to Ukraine would occur only in a subsequent phase, asserting that no European forces would be present in Ukraine in the immediate future.
He highlighted the importance of utilizing this period to negotiate a truce, which would take several weeks, followed by troop deployment once peace is established.
When asked about the plan, Zelenskiy confirmed his awareness of it. Also, Macron stressed the necessity for France and other European nations to increase defense spending, suggesting a target of 3% to 3.5% of GDP, and called for more innovative financing solutions from the European Commission for defense expenditures.
