Former Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma, 2 other Kenyans sacked by Tanzania Premier League side

Tanzania Premier League side Singida Black Stars have parted ways with former Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma following a string of poor results that have forced the club to take drastic measures in a bid to revive their season.

The decision came after Singida Black Stars suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to TRA United, a result that exposed the team’s struggles and pushed the management to dissolve the entire technical bench.

Ouma, who guided the club in the Group Staged of the 25/26 CAF Confederation Cup, was relieved of his duties alongside goalkeepers coach Lawrence Webo and video analyst Brian Aswani, both Kenyans who were part of the backroom staff.

The sweeping changes underline the seriousness of the situation at the club, which currently sits sixth in the Tanzania Premier League standings with 25 points.

Despite still being in contention for a respectable finish, the management believes a restructuring of the technical bench is necessary to steady the team and restore confidence within the squad.

In an official communication released by the club, the management confirmed the sacking of the entire technical bench.

“Singida BS officially announces the dissolution of the entire Technical Bench, effective today 5 April 2026. This decision has been made due to the team’s poor performance following unsatisfactory results in recent matches,” Singida posted.

In another statement, the club, which is also home to Harambee Stars striker Elvis Rupia, announced that player salaries as well as travel allowance have been reduced by 40% till the end of the season. Match winning bonuses have also been scrapped.

“The management of Singida BS Club would like to inform the Tanzanian public, our fans and all football stakeholders that, in line with the measures to dissolve the Technical Bench, it has also reduced the salaries of all players by forty percent (40%) from now until the end of the season.

Likewise, the management has cancelled all bonuses that were given when the team wins and reduced the travel allowance by forty percent (40%) from now until the end of the season,” Singida announced.

The drastic move sends a strong warning to the playing unit as the club heads into a crucial phase of the season. Financial sanctions of this magnitude are rare and highlight the urgency within the Singida Black Stars hierarchy to halt the downward spiral and reignite competitiveness.

With a crucial fixture against KMC FC coming up next, the team will be under immense pressure to respond positively on the pitch.

The match is expected to test the players’ mentality and determine whether the recent decisions by management will inspire a turnaround.

As the season enters its final stretch, Singida Black Stars now find themselves at a crossroads, with the dismissal of Ouma and the financial measures marking a decisive attempt to restore discipline, performance, and stability within the club.
