FM al-Baour attends emergency OIC meeting

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher al-Baour, attended an emergency meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Thursday.

The meeting was held at the OIC General Secretariat headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss the latest developments concerning the Palestinian issue.

Participants also discussed mechanisms for enhancing coordination and consultations among member states to address forthcoming challenges and advance the shared interests of the Muslim world.

The meeting also saw Mauritanian diplomat Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed elected as the OIC’s new secretary-general, succeeding Chad’s Hussein Ibrahim Taha.

The election comes as the organisation prepares for the next phase of its work and seeks to further advance joint Islamic action.
