FIFA congratulates Sierra Leone President Babadi Kamara on election as WAFU A first vice President – Africa Top Sports

FIFA has congratulated 𝐒𝐋𝐅𝐀 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐁𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐝𝐢 𝐊𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐚 following his election as 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐙𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐀 (𝐖𝐀𝐅𝐔 𝐀) during the Union’s recent General Assembly in Banjul, The Gambia.

In a letter dated 7 September 2026, 𝐅𝐈𝐅𝐀 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐬𝐭𝐫ö𝐦 described the election as a “𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥-𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧” of President Babadi’s standing within the West African football community and the work he has undertaken at the helm of the SLFA.

Grafström noted that the President’s election was “𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬,” adding that FIFA has every confidence that his “𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞” will be of great value to WAFU A in his new role.

The FIFA scribe further mentioned the progress being made across the region, stating that WAFU A “𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬, 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡,” and stressed that strong and experienced leadership would be essential in sustaining that momentum.

Expressing confidence in President Babadi Kamara’s ability to contribute to the development of the zone, Grafström said his leadership would help WAFU A “𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰” and further strengthen collaboration among member associations across West Africa.

He concluded by wishing the SLFA President success in his new mandate and reaffirmed FIFA’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation with him in pushing football development in the region.

The SLFA boss was elected 1st Vice President of WAFU A at the organisation’s 15th General Assembly over the weekend.
