A 63-year-old man and his 37-year-old daughter were arrested following a high-speed chase through the streets of Gustrouw in Strand, after allegedly stealing a generator during a house robbery.
The robbery occurred around 05:00 on William Steward Street, where a local security company responded swiftly to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that community members had already apprehended the two suspects and recovered the stolen generator.
High-speed pursuit
In an attempt to evade arrest, the pair fled the scene in a vehicle, leading to a high-speed pursuit.
During the chase, the vehicle collided with another car, drawing a large crowd and prompting a rapid response from law enforcement.
The suspects sustained injuries during the crash and were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment before being placed back into police custody.
They now face charges of housebreaking, theft, and reckless driving.
Strand police have confirmed that the suspects will appear in the Strand Magistrate’s Court once formal charges are filed.
The incident has sparked outrage in the local community.
According to the Strand Community Policing Forum, the female suspect is known to residents, intensifying calls for decisive action against repeat offenders and increasing concerns about rising crime in the area.
