EU Delegation Visits ECOWAS Logistics Depot In Sierra Leone

Representatives of the European Union (EU) and EU Member States have visited the ECOWAS Logistics Depot in Lungi, Sierra Leone, to familiarise themselves with its facilities, operational role and place within the regional peace and security architecture.

The visit was also aimed at enhancing the delegation’s understanding of the concept and functions of the recently commissioned depot, according to a statement on the ECOWAS website.

The EU delegation was received by the Commander of the ECOWAS Logistics Depot, Navy Captain I. J. Akpa, who briefed the visitors on the “mandate, facilities and evolving operational role of the Depot as an ECOWAS regional logistics capability supporting peace support operations, humanitarian assistance, emergency response and other mandated regional requirements”.

Akpa explained that the engagement provided an opportunity to clarify the concept and functions of the depot and enhance understanding of its role within the ECOWAS regional logistics architecture.

The EU representatives subsequently toured Sites 1 and 2 of the depot, including the administrative, warehouse, residential and other support facilities.

The delegation expressed “appreciation for the facilities and indicated that the visit had provided a clearer understanding of the mandate, capabilities and potential utility of the ECOWAS Logistics Depot”.

The visit formed part of the depot’s continuing engagement with relevant regional and international partners following its commissioning on 18 July 2026, as it developed its role as a strategic regional logistics capability for ECOWAS.

The EU delegation included Emilio Rossetti, Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union Delegation; Olivier Huot, French Chargé d’Affaires; Irene Toeller, German Chargé d’Affaires; and Charlie Suilen, Regional Security Advisor, EU Delegation.

The delegation was accompanied by Funsho Ibrahim, Political Advisor, ECOWAS Resident Representative Office, and Joe Skeff, Managing Director, PROTEC Security Services.
