Background:
The
SAfA Tanzania Project aims to support over 50,000 young men and women
aged 15–30 in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, and Songwe who are currently
facing uncertain futures. The project seeks to improve their life
prospects through better access to education, income opportunities, and
health services, while fostering a more youth-friendly and inclusive
environment. This is achieved through a multisectoral approach
implemented by three partners: Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung (DSW)
Tanzania, Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS) Tanzania, and Kühne
Foundation (KF) Tanzania.

Together, they bring complementary
expertise to promote skills development for gainful employment, enhance
agricultural practices, optimize health supply chains, and improve
reproductive health education with a focus on gender responsiveness.
They also work to increase the uptake of youth-friendly health services.The
project’s integrated and holistic model is expected to generate
significant, sustainable impact, which will be closely monitored through
rigorous evaluation. Lessons learned will support ongoing local
capacity building and inform future scaling and replication in Tanzania
and beyond.

Position: We are seeking motivated and
adaptable trainers to participate in a short-term but intensive training
for youth entrepreneurs. Candidates will receive three weeks of
training/support in an innovative training method, known as Personal
Initiative (PI) training. In the context of scientific studies in
training administrations undertaken by major international organizations
including the World Bank, this PI training has shown to be more
effective than traditional business training methods. These “train the
trainer” sessions will take place online and in person in Usa River.

After
having been trained, candidates are expected to deploy the training
method to four groups of trainees in the Arusha and Kilimanjaro regions
across the course of four weeks in July/early August. Finally, trainers
will follow-up with additional coaching supervision twice with training
groups in the weeks following the training.

Key preconditions/responsibilities:

  • Participation
    in the “train the trainer” (TTT) sessions across the course of three
    weeks in June (tentatively beginning June 2 or June 9 and running
    through late June);
  • Training of four groups of approximately
    20-30 youths in July / early August with training sessions running for
    six hours per day for four days a week;
  • Work closely with master trainers and other trainers to receive feedback and continuously improve training delivery;
  • Handle
    various administrative tasks (e.g., recording of participant
    attendance, logistical coordination with trainees and other trainers,
    etc., surveys?);
  • Conduct follow-up supervision meetings with training groups in the weeks following training.

Duration:
Predominantly June through August – with six weeks of full-time work
and part-time meetings and supplemental sessions for two to three weeks –
also in September/October.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – confident facilitator or presenter;
  • Ability to quickly absorb new content and translate it into effective learning experiences;
  • Flexible, resourceful, and self-directed with a strong sense of accountability;
  • Preferred but not required:
    • Prior experience with training delivery, group facilitation, or adult learning;
    • Prior experience running/owning a small business.


Payment & other benefits:

2,500,000 Tanzanian shilling for the full “package” of deliverables –
with prorated fees if not all deliverables are provided; certification
in the Personal Initiative training methodology which has been used by
major international organizations including the World Bank.
