Orlando Pirates could be faced with a situation where they lose one or two of their superstars for next season.
Pirates have had yet another decent season where they won their third MTN8 title in a row so far.
Pirates have a lot to play for still this season
Besides that, Pirates are currently second on the Betway Premiership log behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. They’re also in the knockout stages of the CAF Champions League where they’ll take on MC Algers. They’re also in the semifinals of the Nedbank Cup, which they will be looking to win three consecutive times. One of the players that has been key to that run is striker Tshegofatso Mabasa.
Mabasa was in terrific form even last year after returning to Pirates from a loan deal at Moroka Swallows. This ensured he attracted interest from abroad as well as Sundowns. Now according to Soccer-Laduma the left-footed striker has attracted interest from the English Championship.
Mabasa attracts interest from English Championship side
“There has been interest from other countries but now it’s an English side that has enquired about him. That must tell you something. He has been doing well (for Pirates). Sometimes those scouts don’t just look at the goals scored. They also look at different contributions the striker has in the team. And you know Tshego (Mabasa) is a team player and that could be the reason for this interest from England,” said one source to the same publication.
A second source confirmed that the English Championship side that wants Mabasa is a high-ranking one. This could see the player push Pirates to sanction the move.
Is it the right time for him to leave the Buccaneers?
“No. It’s not a Premier League side. It’s actually believed to be a Championship side but one that is not struggling according to the scouts who have been following Mabasa’s process. They are apparently happy with what they have seen and even the age of Mabasa as well,” said the second source.
Would you give him your blessing?
