Elon Musk’s DOGE staff resigned in protest

A considerable number of employees at Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have resigned in protest, citing their unwillingness to implement changes they perceive as detrimental to the nation.

In a communication directed to White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, 21 DOGE staff members articulated that their dedication to serving the American populace and upholding “constitutional principles” had been compromised, leading them to conclude that they could no longer fulfill their duties.

These individuals, previously part of the United States Digital Service (USDS), had been engaged in essential government initiatives until the department underwent restructuring in January under President Donald Trump, with Musk taking on a pivotal role in its management.

Although Musk does not hold the official title of DOGE administrator, his influence as a “special government employee” and “senior adviser to the president” allows him to significantly shape departmental operations, including advocating for reductions in federal staffing and expenditures.

Under Musk’s leadership, the department has redirected its priorities towards minimizing government personnel, with engineers allegedly working on new software designed to facilitate the dismissal of federal employees, especially those with robust civil service protections.

This shift in focus comes in the wake of a prior communication sent to two million federal employees, which required them to validate their positions or face potential termination.

In response to this email, numerous government agencies have instructed their employees to ignore the message inspired by DOGE, indicating a pushback against the directive.
