Elsewedy Electric, a leading cable and electrical equipment manufacturer controlled by Egypt’s El-Sewedy family, has officially signed a QAR1 billion ($274.7 million) contract with Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) through its Qatari subsidiary, Elsewedy Cables Qatar.
This move marks a major step forward in the expansion of Qatar’s power transmission network and further strengthens Elsewedy Electric’s footprint in the Gulf region.
Aamal Company and Senyar Industries: Strategic Qatari deal
Under the contract, Elsewedy Cables Qatar will receive supply and project orders to handle the installation of 132-kilovolt (kV) power cables as part of Kahramaa’s grid enhancement project. The cables will be produced locally by Doha Cables, a joint venture between Aamal Company and Elsewedy Electric.
The contract was signed under the framework of Senyar Industries Qatar Holding W.L.L., jointly owned by Aamal and Elsewedy Electric, each with a 50 percent stake. The signing ceremony was attended by senior executives from both companies, including Ahmed Fathy El-Sewedy, Deputy CEO of Senyar Industries, and H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman of Aamal Company.
On behalf of Aamal, the contract was signed by H.E. Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani, with company executives, including H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Faisal Al Thani and Ahmed Fathy El-Sewedy (Deputy CEO of Senyar Industries) in attendance.
Elsewedy Electric: Powering MENA, aligning with Qatar’s vision
Founded in 1938, Elsewedy Electric has evolved from a local cable manufacturer into a diversified energy and infrastructure conglomerate across the Middle East and North Africa.
Under the leadership of Ahmed El-Sewedy, the company has expanded to 15 countries and holds assets worth over $3.6 billion. Elsewedy Cables Qatar, a 73.4-percent subsidiary of Senyar Industries Qatar Holding W.L.L., is majority-owned by Elsewedy Electric (50 percent stake).
This contract with Kahramaa follows another significant EPC win for Elsewedy Cables Qatar. The company secured a contract from Technip Energies for a critical project linked to Qatar’s North Field South (NFS) Onshore Project. The latest contract reinforces Elsewedy Electric’s role in advancing critical infrastructure in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
