Egypt, Sudan discuss political efforts to end conflict, Red Sea security

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a telephone call with Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salem on Friday to discuss bilateral ties and developments in Sudan, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, the ministry said in a statement.

He also stressed the importance of a Sudanese-owned political process free from foreign interference to help end the crisis and restore security and stability, it added.

The two ministers exchanged views on developments in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea security, underlining the need for greater co-ordination among littoral states and for safeguarding maritime navigation.

They also voiced support for efforts to promote peace, security and stability in the Horn of Africa in a way that protects the interests of countries in the region and their peoples.
