The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, has reaffirmed the regional body’s commitment to deeper cooperation and integration during a meeting with Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio amid the ongoing ECOWAS Mid-Year Statutory Meetings.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the State House in Freetown, Dr. Touray briefed President Bio on the progress of the meetings and commended Sierra Leone for successfully hosting the regional event, a statement said on Wednesday.

He said the country’s support and hospitality had created an enabling environment for productive discussions aimed at advancing ECOWAS priorities, including economic integration, regional stability and sustainable development.

Touray also praised President Bio, Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, for his leadership in steering the bloc through key regional challenges.

The meeting was attended by senior ECOWAS and Sierra Leonean officials, underscoring continued collaboration as member states pursue policies to strengthen trade, investment, governance and economic resilience across West Africa.
