The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has commended the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone for facilitating the return of former President Ernest Bai Koroma to the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the ECOWAS Commission specifically praised President Julius Maada Bio for his role in ensuring the successful return of the former leader.
The Commission noted that Koroma’s return followed the Sierra Leonean Government’s decision to withdraw the charges against him in the broader interest of national reconciliation, unity and the promotion of enduring peace and stability.
ECOWAS described the development as a significant step towards strengthening peace, cohesion and reconciliation in Sierra Leone.
The regional body also expressed appreciation to ECOWAS leaders, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, for his leadership and support in hosting former President Koroma during his stay in Nigeria and facilitating his safe and dignified return to Sierra Leone.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at promoting peace, political stability and democratic governance across the West African region.
