Eco Buildings’ Dr Etrur Albani on major Gambia housing opportunity

Eco Buildings Group PLC (AIM:ECOB, FRA:9ZL0) executive vice chairman Dr Etrur Albani spoke with Proactive’s Stephen Gunnion about recent discussions with government officials in The Gambia and potential opportunities for housing and local manufacturing.

Albani noted that Eco Buildings met the country’s Minister of Interior and Minister of Defence, along with other officials. While the initial focus is housing for police and military personnel, discussions extended to wider opportunities. “Over 60% of people are without a roof over their heads. It’s very vast,” Albani said, pointing to housing shortages, displacement, and potential opportunities in education and general administration.

He also discussed establishing local manufacturing in the Gambia, saying experience from setting up the company’s second production line means a new line could now take months rather than six or seven. The strategy, he explained, is to manufacture close to the markets it serves rather than produce centrally and ship products elsewhere.

Eco Buildings is also eyeing a broader ECOWAS strategy that could let an operation serve not just the Gambian market but an expanded market across Africa.

Asked about converting the discussions into formal agreements and beginning home deliveries, Albani said the company was “in the process for that,” adding: “Watch this space.”
