Matthew Koopmann, general and vascular surgeon with the 915th Forward Resuscitative Surgical Detachment, 313th Hospital Center, 2nd Medical Brigade, shares his service story and why the Angola Medical Readiness Exercise is important to U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers at Hospital Militar Principal, Luanda, Angola, Sept. 8, 2026. U.S. and Angolan medical professionals applied shared medical practices during the MEDREX, strengthening readiness and interoperability. U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF) planned and executed the exercise, which brought 10 U.S. Army Reserve medical professionals together with Angolan counterparts for clinical collaboration and subject-matter expert exchanges.
