Dr Gwajima :Empowering youth is crucial for community development.

The Minister of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Hon. Dr. Dorothy Gwajima, emphasized the significance of empowering girls and young women to achieve economic resilience, overcome challenges, and live with dignity.

Dr. Gwajima made these remarks during an event celebrating the achievements of young women leaders in Tanzania, organized by “Her Initiative”, an organization dedicated to empowering and supporting young women and girls in reaching their economic goals, overcoming barriers, and living with respect.

She noted that the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, serves as a role model for successful female leadership and inspires girls and women across the nation.

She highlighted Tanzania’s progress in increasing women’s representation in parliament from 8% in 1995 to 37% in 2020, while underscoring the government’s commitment to economically empower women through affordable loans and access to quality education.

“We must cultivate a culture that enables girls and young women to realize their dreams and live with dignity,” she said.

Additionally, the Belgian Ambassador to Tanzania, Peter Huyghebaert, remarked on the strong collaboration between Tanzania and Belgium in ensuring equal opportunities for women and girls in all sectors.

“Gender equality is fundamental to community development. Tanzania and Belgium are united in ensuring that women have equal access to education, employment, and leadership. We are collaborating on various projects such as ‘Wizeka Binti,’ ‘Empower the Girl,’ and Binti Digitale to ensure that every girl can achieve her dreams,” Ambassador Huyghebaert said.

Also, the Executive Director of ‘Her Initiative’ Lidya Charles, expressed gratitude and commended Minister Dr. Gwajima for her strong leadership and efforts in advocating for the aspirations of both young women and men through the Ministry of Community Development.

She also urged the community to support girls in achieving their dreams in various fields of success.

Dr. Gwajima said ‘Empowering youth is crucial for community development.’
