Dp world investment boosts Tanzania national revenue to an impressive 8.26 trillion

Transport Minister Professor Makame Mbarawa presented the revenue and expenditure estimates for the Ministry of Transport for the 2025/2026 fiscal year.

He highlighted the significant role of private ‘sector involvement ‘ in the operations of the Port of Dar es Salaam, which has led to increased revenue from port activities.

From July 2024 to February 2025, customs revenue collected from the port reached an impressive 8.26 trillion shillings.

Professor Mbarawa emphasized that the government’s collaboration with private companies, such as DP World and Tanzania East Africa Gateway Terminal Limited (TEAGTL), aims to enhance port efficiency and contribute to the nation’s economic growth and overall development.

The investments have facilitated the acquisition of modern equipment and technology, further improving port operations and resulting in a revenue increase of 1.18 trillion shillings compared to the previous year’s total of 7.08 trillion shillings during the same period.

Also , it has significantly reduced the waiting time for cargo ships, decreasing it from an average of 46 days to just seven days for both general and bulk cargo vessels.

Additionally, the turnaround time for container ships at the port has improved, dropping from an average of ten days to three.

This efficiency has led to an increase in the average monthly container throughput, rising from 17,000 TEUs to 25,000 TEUs, marking a remarkable 47% growth. Furthermore, there has been a rise in non-‘tax revenue ‘ collections from various public institutions providing services at the port.
