The existence of a sequel has been an open secret since 2022, when CDPR’s roadmap mentioned “Project Orion,” described as an effort to “further develop the potential embodied by [the Cyberpunk 2077] universe.” Now, the codename has been dropped as development progresses. “Several weeks ago, the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project’s conceptual phase,” the publisher stated. “As a result, Cyberpunk 2 – previously known under the codename Project Orion – has progressed to pre-production.”
While moving into pre-production is a crucial milestone, it’s important to remember that a playable game is still a long way off. Given the challenges faced during the original game’s launch, it’s expected that CDPR will prioritize a more cautious and extended development timeline for the final stages of Cyberpunk 2.

The Ultimate Edition arrived on PC and consoles in 2023 and is slated to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and macOS soon.
