The Director General of the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC), Masanja Kadogosa, has announced that the Sixth Phase Government, under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is poised to commence the construction of the Dar es Salaam Commuter Rail Network within the next 30 years.
Kadogosa made this statement during a presentation at a collaborative workshop between TRC management and social media journalists, held in Morogoro. The workshop aims to provide education, knowledge, and skills on effective reporting of railway-related news.
The Commuter Rail Network (CRN) is designed to facilitate short to medium-distance train travel, particularly within urban areas and their outskirts.
The implementation of this project will involve public transport trains, enabling passengers to travel to and from work, business, healthcare facilities, schools, places of worship, and other destinations.
Kadogosa emphasized that the project’s execution aims to enhance the efficiency of transportation services for citizens, thereby accelerating community and national development.
“Thus, the Dar es Salaam railway is essential,” Kadogosa stated, highlighting that this investment will yield significant benefits for both the community and the nation.
He further noted that the implementation of such trains will extend to Dodoma, where it will commence sooner, followed by expansions to Arusha and Mbeya.
“The preliminary design and feasibility studies for the construction of the Dar es Salaam City Railway and Dodoma have been completed, and we will begin soon. Currently, efforts to secure funding for the railway construction are ongoing.”
Kadogosa mentioned that these projects are expected to involve public-private partnerships (PPP), with various companies expressing interest in participating in the construction of these routes, including Alstom.
