Cricket Cranes make light work of Sierra Leone in ILT20 opener

Uganda’s Cricket Cranes put Sierra Leone to the sword in their opening ILT20 encounter in Kigali, Rwanda.
Cricket Cranes won the toss and elected to bat first. Anas Baig got a great delivery that took off from a good length with a bit of his glove through to the keeper, as Uganda lost its first wicket on the first ball.
Robinson Obuya (37) and Charles Musemeza (89) struggled in the beginning, but once they got going, they plundered the ball to all parts of the Gahanga ground.
Gerald Olipa (83 not out) was more destructive and scored runs very quickly in a big partnership of 227 runs with Musemeza.
Riazat Ali Shah scored a quick-fire 32 off 8 balls at the back as Uganda piled on the highest score of the tournament, 250/3 in their quota of 20 overs.
In the run chase, Sierra Leone was in fight mode and offered resistance with Raymond Coker (9) and Aluseine Turay (74) in an opening stand worth 53 runs, but two quick wickets from Juma Miyaji derailed the chase, which made things difficult.
The wicket-taking responsibility was shared between Juma Miyaji (2/18) and Kenneth Waiswa (2/20), with the run chase running out of steam with 114 runs required for the win.
It was a performance of intent from the defending champions as they look to grow in the tournament. They never got to exhaust their resources, especially the batting, but everyone could get a chance with so many games to come.
Uganda will take on Botswana tomorrow morning in their second game of the tournament.
