Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns in a race to sign PSL top left-back

Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly in a race to sign PSL top left back Vuyo Letlapa.

The 21-year-old is enjoying his first season in the Betway Premiership with Sekhukhune United. According to Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi have inquired about the young defender.

“You remember that player was given a red card when Sekhukhune United lost 1-0 to Kaizer Chiefs? the left back Vuyo Letlapa. Chiefs are interested in him and they have inquired about him. He is one of the upcoming left backs and he is very good,” a source told the publication.

Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns after Letlapa

“They know that it’s believed that Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are also monitoring him so let’s wait and see what will happen. But now it boils down to who is willing to pay more. The highest bidder will get the player.”

Chiefs and Pirates need a quality left-back and could be in a big fight for Letlapa. Having signed from Jomo Cosmos, the 21-year-old has impressed for Babina Noko.

“I went to get Letlapa at Bushbuckridge [Mpumalanga], and I was told that he is a winger. When I first saw him, I was like, ‘There’s no way this guy is a winger’,” Sono told FARPost.

“The first thing I noticed about him when I saw him was he used to cross the ball without looking up to see his options in the box; that’s why I played him in the left-back position. We worked on his weaknesses, and now, when I look at him, he’s a complete player.

Whether Sekhukhune sells to Chiefs, Pirates or Sundowns remains to be seen. If the money is good, the Limpopo-based side won’t have a problem selling just like they did with Elias Mokwana.

Where should Letlapa go?
