Cocoa prices in Cameroon reached as high as CFA2,900 per kilogram on August 31, offering producers a stronger start to the 2026-27 season after the country recorded a sharp decline in cocoa export revenue during the previous campaign.
According to data from the National Cocoa and Coffee Board (ONCC), prices ranged from CFA2,750 to CFA2,900 per kilogram on August 31.
The levels are above those recorded shortly before the new season began. On July 15, the official closing date of the 2025-26 cocoa season, producers received between CFA2,700 and CFA2,750 per kilogram in production areas.
Cameroon officially launched its 2026-27 cocoa season on August 6 in Yaoundé. The country also entered the new season with significantly larger stocks of unsold beans. ONCC data show that inventories left from the previous campaign reached 40,446 tons, compared with 13,946 tons a year earlier.
Those stocks are expected to support market activity early in the 2026-27 season before the first new harvests expected toward the end of 2026. Cocoa is one of Cameroon’s main export commodities. However, the value of bean exports at shipment from the Port of Douala fell sharply during the 2025-26 season.
According to ONCC, exports were valued at CFA400.9 billion, down CFA673 billion, or 63%, from CFA1.0746 trillion the previous season. The decline reflected both lower export volumes and the fall in global cocoa prices between the two seasons.
