Burkina Faso has been added to an international human rights watchlist as the military government escalates a crackdown on civil society and political rivals, while battling one of Africa’s deadliest insurgencies.
The CIVICUS Monitor Watchlist found that more than 1,100 civil society organizations have been suspended or dissolved, all political parties have been disbanded and critics face arrests, censorship and disappearance, according to a report published Wednesday by the watchdog.
