Brazil releases framework for selecting offshore wind auction areas TGS 4C
The Energy Research Office (EPE) has published a methodology to guide the
selection of offshore wind development areas, supporting Brazil as it moves
toward launching its first offshore wind auction.
The guide outlines a clear three stage process for identifying potential
areas that could be offered in future tenders.
The methodology aims to reduce uncertainty by setting out key principles,
guidelines and obligations. Its importance is underscored by the need to
effectively manage marine space and balance competing interests.
The first stage examines potential regions, assessing their suitability
in line with legal requirements and technological capabilities. The second
stage focuses on environmental and social considerations, while the final
stage detailing the evaluation process.
Although the methodology does not finalise the areas that will be offered,
it demonstrates a collaborative approach. The document incorporates contributions
from the Offshore Wind Working Group as well as feedback received during
a public consultation held last year.
