Benue: Alia-backed APC faction to appeal tribunal judgement sacking LG chairmen

The All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia in Benue State has assured its members and supporters that it will pursue all legal avenues to reclaim its mandate at the Court of Appeal, following a recent tribunal judgement in Abuja.

Recall that the tribunal sitting at NBA House, Abuja, had sacked some LG chairmen, including: Agatu, Kwande, Ushongo, Vandeikya, Konshisha, Otukpo, Ado, Ohimini and Apa

Reacting, however, the factional State Chairman of the APC, Benjamin Omale, assured that their ‘stolen’ mandate would be reclaimed.

He gave this assurance while addressing journalists during a press conference held at the party’s state secretariat in Makurdi on Tuesday.

Omale urged local government chairmen and party loyalists to remain calm and continue with their constitutional responsibilities.

“There is no cause for alarm. The party will explore every legitimate and constitutional means to reclaim her mandate at the Court of Appeal,” Omale stated.

On his part, the Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Area and Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Benue State, Orwough Maurice, described the judgement as a miscarriage of justice.

He called on all affected local government chairmen to stay focused on their duties and avoid any form of panic.

“Justice can only be delayed but never denied,” Hon. Orwough declared.

He further assured the public that ALGON, in collaboration with the APC leadership and the state governor, will pursue all constitutional and legal means to overturn the tribunal’s decision at the appellate court.

The leadership of the party urged members to remain resolute as the legal battle continues.
