BanffPay Launches Liberia’s First Unified Digital Payment API | Business

BanffPay (Liberia) Limited has reached a major milestone in Liberia’s financial technology sector after securing a Payment Service Provider (PSP) License from the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), paving the way for the launch of the country’s first unified Pay-In and Pay-Out Application Programming Interface (API) designed to transform how businesses collect, send, and manage digital payments.

The regulatory approval positions BanffPay as one of Liberia’s fully licensed digital financial service providers, with authorization to offer digital wallets and other high-availability payment services. 

Combined with its existing Money Remittance and Foreign Exchange Bureau licenses from the Central Bank, the company says it is now equipped to simplify digital payments for businesses and consumers while strengthening Liberia’s place in Africa’s rapidly expanding fintech ecosystem.

At the center of BanffPay’s latest innovation is its unified payment infrastructure, built around the company’s vision of “One API. Every Payment. Endless Opportunities.”

Already recognized for its cross-border remittance services and foreign exchange liquidity management, BanffPay says the new platform will fundamentally change how businesses operating in Liberia move money by allowing them to connect to multiple payment methods through a single API integration.

The unified platform enables fintech companies, merchants, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government institutions, development partners, and international organizations to accept payments, instantly disburse funds, automate collections and payouts, and receive consolidated settlements without the need to integrate with multiple payment providers.

According to the company, the solution is designed to reduce operational complexity while improving efficiency for organizations managing high transaction volumes across different payment channels.

The infrastructure supports a broad range of business applications, including e-commerce platforms, digital marketplaces, payroll processing, lending platforms, merchant collections, government payment systems, NGO disbursement programs, and enterprise payment operations.

BanffPay says its technology has been built specifically for Africa’s unique financial landscape, where mobile money has become the dominant payment channel.

The company notes that nearly 70 percent of the world’s mobile money accounts are located in Africa, while card usage in many African markets remains below three percent, making mobile-first payment infrastructure critical for economic growth and financial inclusion.

Through a single integration, businesses using BanffPay’s unified API can now access payment rails across more than 25 African markets spanning West, Central, East, and Southern Africa.

These markets include Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea Conakry, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Malawi, The Gambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Nigeria, Togo, South Africa, Zambia, Guinea-Bissau, and now Liberia, the newest addition to BanffPay’s expanding continental network.

The company believes the expanded connectivity will make it easier for businesses operating across borders to accept payments, settle transactions, and reach customers throughout Africa using one secure platform.
