Argentina prop on Stormers’ shopping list

The Stormers are reportedly eager to secure the services of a seasoned Argentina international to beef the Cape outfit’s front-row stocks. 

Newcastle tighthead prop Eduardo Bello is on the Stormers’ shopping list as director of rugby John Dobson seeks reinforcements, according to Rapport.

Dobson’s reported interest in Bello suggests concerns over Neethling Fouche’s potential Springbok commitments and uncertainty surrounding Frans Malherbe’s niggling back injury. Bello has been out of action since suffering an ACL injury against the Wallabies in September.

Capped 26 times for the Pumas, Bello played off the bench in the 24-13 reverse against the Springboks in Buenos Aires in 2023. The 29-year-old Bello would add firepower to the Stormers pack, joining Springbok acquisitions Ntuthuko Mchunu (Sharks) and Cobus Reinach (Montpellier) in a move to Cape Town next season.

It is also understood the Stormers have retained centre Wandisile Simelane on a one-year extension, ending speculation about his future.
