Africa’s Top Agripreneurs Wanted – Apply Now

The GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition is back for its seventh year, calling on Africa’s brightest young agripreneurs to showcase their innovative agrifood businesses and compete for a US$160,000 prize pool. Applications open today, 3 April 2025, and close on 10 June 2025, offering founders and co-founders (aged 18-35) the chance to drive food systems transformation across the continent.

A Platform for Africa’s Agri-Food Innovators

The competition, an integral part of the Africa Food Systems Forum (AFSF), seeks tech-savvy, scalable, and sustainable businesses that address food security, job creation, and economic growth. Finalists will pitch live at the AFSF Summit in Dakar, Senegal (31 August – 5 September 2025), where two grand prizes of $50,000 each will be awarded to the top male and female−led ventures. An additional $60,000 in Impact Awards will recognize excellence in key areas like climate resilience, gender equity, nutrition, and rural livelihoods.

“Africa’s youth are brimming with creative energy and ideas to solve myriad problems with innovative solutions,” said Strive Masiyiwa, Founder and Chairman of Econet Group and GoGettaz co-founder.

“They aren’t waiting around for the perfect conditions; they are seizing the moment and embracing technology to revolutionize the agrifood industry across the continent.”

Empowering Africa’s Youth to Transform Food Systems

With the 2025 AFSF theme, “Africa’s Youth: Leading Collaboration, Innovation and Implementation of Agri-Food Systems Transformation,” GoGettaz highlights the critical role of young entrepreneurs in shaping the continent’s future.

Svein Tore Holsether, President and CEO of Yara International and GoGettaz co-founder, said: “I am continually amazed by the ingenuity and determination of the young entrepreneurs we meet through the GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition each year. Their ability to leverage technology and innovative business models showcases the immense potential of the agrifood sector and the pivotal role of entrepreneurship in sustainable development.”

Why This Competition Matters

Africa’s youth population is set to make up one-third of the global youth by 2050, with over 70% under 30. High entrepreneurship rates position the continent as a future leader in innovation and job creation. However, challenges like access to finance, infrastructure gaps, and climate change persist.

Amath Pathe Sene, Managing Director of AFSF, noted: “The 2025 GoGettaz Agripreneur Prize Competition is a rallying point for Africa’s brightest young minds to pioneer transformative solutions. The 2024 winners set a high standard with innovations like renewable energy-powered food processing and eco-friendly sanitary pads. I’m excited to see what 2025 brings.”
