A playground for wild ideas

Lenovo’s ThinkBook line has become a hotbed for experimental tech, and MWC 2025 is no exception. Building on the rollable ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 from CES, Lenovo unveils the ThinkBook 16p Gen 6 alongside a suite of quirky display accessories, ranging from practical to downright whimsical.

The ThinkBook 16p Gen 6, the foundation for these concepts, is a powerful 16-inch workstation. It boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 2785HX, up to 64GB of RAM, 2TB of PCIe storage, and an NVIDIA RTX 5070 GPU. Display options include a 3.2K IPS 165Hz panel or a 2.5K IPS 240Hz panel. Connectivity is robust, with dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, three USB-A jacks, HDMI 2.1, and a card reader. Notably, a dedicated NPU provides a 32 TOPS AI performance boost, though its practical use for most users remains to be seen.

The real spectacle lies in Lenovo’s Magic Bay accessories, all connecting via the ThinkBook 16p’s docking system. For those craving extra screen real estate, the Magic Bay 2nd Display Concept offers an 8-inch magnetic screen, serving as an external monitor or an AI dashboard. The Magic Bay Dual Display Concept takes it further, adding two 13.3-inch panels, effectively creating a multi-monitor workstation on the go, complete with a built-in kickstand for stability.

Lenovo also teased two more intriguing concepts: the Tiko Pro Concept, a slim, ultra-wide display acting as an external notification shade, and the Tiko Concept, a circular AI companion with emoji-based faces and gesture responses. Adding to the absurdity, Lenovo even showcased a cat-themed headband for the Tiko. While the Tiko’s productivity benefits remain ambiguous, it certainly adds a touch of personality to the workspace.

It’s crucial to remember these are concept devices, not guaranteed for production. Lenovo emphasizes their role in exploring the potential of the Magic Bay docking system. In an era where PC innovation seems stagnant, Lenovo’s willingness to experiment is refreshing, even if some ideas are more outlandish than others.
