Bernardo Silva was included in the starting line-up and made his 300th appearance for the Cityzens in the Premier League, becoming only the second player at the club to do so after David Silva.

Pep Guardiola’s dominated from the onset and spent most of the opening 20 minutes in the half of the opposition, who did well thwart every entry into the final third.

City encountered a big scare after 30 minutes when Everton broke free down the right when Merlin Röhl managed to escape his marker before sending an inviting ball into the box, but City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma popped up with a vital save to deny Beto a clear goal.

The visitors eventually got their reward three minutes before the halftime break when Jeremy Doku collected a pass from Rayan Cherki before cutting onto his left-footed and firing into the top corner.

Everton came out for the second half with a bit more attacking intent and they were nearly rewarded just before the hour mark when Iliman Ndiaye surged towards the box before unleashing a low strike that forced Donnarumma into a fine save.

However, Everton were gifted the equaliser in the 69th minute when City’s Marc Guehi’s poor back-pass sent Thierno Barry through on goal and the Frenchman had the composure to slot past Donnarumma.

The hosts completed the turnaround four minutes later when Jake O’Brien got on the end of James Garner’s corner and sent a glancing header into the back of the net. It got better for the Toffees with 10 minutes left on the clock as they bagged a third goal when Röhl embarked on a fine run down the right before crossing for Barry, who slotted home from close range.

Erling Haaland did pull a goal back three minutes later by racing through on goal from Mateo Kovacic’s through-ball and lifted the ball over Jordan Pickford, before Doku had the final say by bagging the equaliser in the 97th minute with a superb strike from distance.

Arsenal sit top of the table, five points ahead of Man City who have a game in hand.
