Niger connects 153 MDAs to high-speed internet — DG

The Niger State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency (NSITDEA) has connected over 153 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to high-speed fibre-optic internet, marking a major milestone in the state’s digital transformation drive.

Suleiman Isah, director-general of the agency, disclosed this while speaking on the sidelines of ongoing efforts to modernise governance and enhance public service delivery through technology.

According to him, the initiative has established a unified digital backbone across government institutions, enabling faster communication, seamless data exchange, and improved operational efficiency within the public sector.

He explained that, prior to the intervention, many MDAs operated on fragmented and unreliable internet systems, which slowed administrative processes and limited coordination. The deployment of fibre-optic infrastructure, he noted, has now positioned the state for real-time governance and integrated service delivery.

Isah further revealed that the connectivity project is supported by forward-looking state government policies, including the approval of zero Right-of-Way charges for fibre-optic deployment.

This, he said, has encouraged private sector participation and accelerated broadband expansion across the state.

Industry observers note that the development is already yielding results, with noticeable improvements in data management, inter-agency collaboration, and cost efficiency, as MDAs now operate on shared digital infrastructure.

Beyond connectivity, Isah highlighted the agency’s broader mandate, which includes the digitalisation of government services, promotion of ICT skills, and strengthening of the state’s digital economy ecosystem.

He reiterated NSITDEA’s commitment to deepening digital inclusion, expanding infrastructure to underserved areas, and sustaining reforms aimed at positioning Niger State as a leading hub for technology-driven governance in Nigeria.

Yunusa Saidu Ibrahim, ANIPR director, Information and Public Relations Services Ministry of Information and Orientation, Niger State, in a statement said the achievement underscores the state government’s growing investment in digital infrastructure as a critical enabler of transparency, accountability, and economic growth.
