Chege Kirundi has officially been confirmed as the chairman of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) after the High Court lifted conservatory orders that had temporarily halted his election.

The court had initially issued the suspension on January 23, 2025, following a challenge by KTDA board member Enos Njeru, who disputed the election process that led to Kirundi’s appointment.

However, the High Court ruled in favour of KTDA, dismissing Njeru’s claims as unfounded. This ruling cleared the way for Kirundi to resume his position as chairman of the KTDA Holdings Board.

The court’s latest decision also affirmed the application to vacate the conservatory orders, effectively validating the board’s original decision and confirming Kirundi’s leadership.

In response to the court’s decision, KTDA assured its stakeholders that its operations would continue without disruption, with a focus on enhancing efficiency, delivering value, and supporting tea farmers across Kenya.

Kirundi’s confirmation as chairman is seen as a step toward stabilizing KTDA’s leadership, allowing the board to continue working on improving governance, operational efficiency, and promoting sustainable growth within Kenya’s tea sector.

KTDA remains committed to upholding transparency and accountability while prioritizing the welfare of farmers and stakeholders.

Wilson Muthaura, KTDA’s Group CEO, expressed his full support for Kirundi, emphasising the importance of continued collaboration to push forward the tea sector’s reform agenda, which has already contributed to better yields for farmers.
