Netherlands 1-1 Germany

Xavi Hernandez’s Netherlands struck late in the second half to deny Jurgen Klopp a winning start as Germany head coach.

The Dutch thought they had taken the lead through Virgil van Dijk’s early header, but the goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a foul on goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Klopp’s charges broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Felix Nmecha fired home from close range, although the Dutch were upset that Germany did not put the ball out when Brian Brobbey was on the ground.

The game was seemingly headed for a Germany win until the hosts bagged the equaliser on 90 minutes via a wonderful volley from Cody Gakpo.

Portugal 1-0 Wales

Jorge Jesus began his Portugal reign with a 1-0 win over Wales in their Nations League opener.

Selecao got the only goal of the contest inside 22 minutes when Joao Felix found the back of the net to get the first goal in the Jesus era.

Norway 3-2 Denmark

Norway started their Nations League journey with a 3-2 win over Denmark.

The hosts got off to the perfect start when Oscar Bobb opened the scoring on 14 minutes before Erling Haaland doubled the lead four minutes later.

The Danes did pull one back courtesy of a strike from Mikkel Damsgaard in the 25th minute.

Rasmus Hojlund brought Denmark level on the hour mark, but Haaland restored Norway’s lead with the winning goal in the 74th minute.

Serbia 1-2 Greece

Greece rallied from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Serbia at the Stadion Rajko Mitić.

The Serbs broke the deadlock as early as the fourth minute, with Andrija Zivkovic finding the back of the net.

The 2004 European champions, however, levelled matters through Arsenal winger Christos Tzolis before Anastasios Douvikas popped up with the winning goal in the 96th minute.
