China’s Vice Minister of Public Security and Director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, Qi Yanjun, offered technical and training support to Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) Interior Minister Emad Al-Trabelsi to strengthen the ministry’s capabilities in combating organized crime, drugs and psychotropic substances.
The offer came during a meeting between Al-Trabelsi and Qi in Beijing, where they discussed ways to strengthen security cooperation between Libya and China. The meeting was held on the sidelines of Al-Trabelsi’s participation in the 2026 Global Public Security Cooperation Forum, hosted by the Chinese city of Lianyungang from September 8 to 10.
The Interior Ministry said in a statement posted on Facebook that the meeting addressed cooperation in policing and law enforcement, as well as the exchange of expertise and experience to support security efforts and enhance coordination between the two sides.
Qi said China intends to provide technical assistance to Libya’s Interior Ministry to support the development of agencies responsible for combating organized crime, drugs and psychotropic substances.
The Chinese side also expressed readiness to conduct joint training programs and work toward signing a memorandum of understanding on security cooperation between Libya and China.
