CAMTEL Signs Deal to Connect Private Higher Education Campuses

Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, has signed a framework agreement with the National Association of Private Higher Education Institutions, ANIPES, to supply broadband connectivity, campus interconnection and data-hosting services to private higher education institutions across the country. The agreement was signed on September 2, 2026, at CAMTEL’s headquarters. It gives institutions affiliated with ANIPES access to telecommunications and digital services tailored to their academic and administrative operations.

Under the partnership, CAMTEL will provide reliable high-speed internet intended to improve access to online learning materials, research databases and other digital services. The operator will also interconnect campuses to support the secure exchange of information between sites.

The package includes secure and sovereign data-hosting services designed to allow institutions to store and manage academic, administrative and student information. Other digital solutions will be developed according to the operational requirements of participating institutions.

“Every institution must have quality connectivity to enable the university community to improve the quality of teaching,” CAMTEL General Manager Judith Yah Sunday épouse Achidi said during the signing ceremony.

The partnership comes as internet use continues to expand, while a large share of Cameroon’s population remains unconnected. Data from the International Telecommunication Union show that 46.3% of the country’s population used the internet in 2024.

The Ministry of Higher Education has placed digitalization, professional training and university entrepreneurship among its policy priorities. In April 2026, the ministry said ANIPES’ new leadership had presented projects focused on university entrepreneurship and the implementation of Cameroon’s Higher Education Law adopted on July 25, 2023.

CAMTEL said the agreement is intended to support a more connected, secure and digitally equipped private higher education system. Implementation will depend on the specific service arrangements subsequently concluded with participating institutions.
