Russian Drone Strike Near Kyiv Kills At Least 27 After Warehouse Detonates

At least 27 people were killed after a Russian drone struck a warehouse near Kyiv, triggering a series of explosions, Ukrainian officials said Saturday.

Another 42 people were injured and more than 380 evacuated following the strike in the Bucha district, according to Kyiv regional governor Tymur Tkachenko, who warned that the death toll could still rise.

The strike late Friday hit a warehouse in the village of Myla and set off a detonation that caused extensive damage to the surrounding area, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. At least 50 residential buildings were damaged, along with a facility caring for elderly people and people with disabilities.

Zelensky said criminal proceedings had been opened over possible official negligence, suggesting ammunition had been improperly stored close to residential areas.

“There are regulations in place – ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas,” Zelensky said, adding that those responsible for allowing the situation would be held accountable.

The attack came as Russia continued waves of drone strikes on Kyiv and the surrounding region for a third consecutive day, damaging homes and warehouses and repeatedly triggering air raid alerts across the Ukrainian capital.
