The Electoral Office of Jamaica, EOJ, says it’s finalizing preparations for the by-election in North East St. Ann set for Monday, September 30.
In a statement on Thursday, the EOJ says polls will open at 7AM and close at 5PM.
It says after the closing, preliminary counting of ballots will immediately take place at each polling station.
The EOJ says training has been completed for election day workers who’ll be deployed to conduct polls in 146 polling stations across 27 voting locations in the constituency.
The EOJ added that over 43,000 voters are registered in North East St. Ann, based on the May 31 voters’ list to be used in the by-election.
It says only electors registered to vote in the constituency will be allowed to vote in the by-election.
Voters are entitled to three hours’ time-off from work to vote in the by-election on September 30.
The three hours’ time-off to vote is in addition to the usual lunch hour.
The law, however, does not apply to persons who commence work at 10AM or later or end work at or before 2PM.
The EOJ says the by-election will be monitored by the Election Centre.
The Constituted Authority, which comes into effect whenever an election notice is issued and has the ability to halt elections, will oversee the process.
