New snake species named after Slash from Guns N’ Roses

(CNN) – A newly discovered snake species has been named after Slash, the guitarist from Guns N’ Roses.

The species, Lielaphis slashi, is a brown groundsnake found in New Guinea. It does not produce venom that could seriously hurt a person.

The snake was first discovered in 2006. It has taken time to study, understand and classify it.

A curator at the Field Museum in Chicago is the senior author of the paper describing the new species.

Slash visited the museum and got a photo with the curator and her copy of Reptiles Magazine, which features Slash on the cover.

Slash is a lifelong reptile lover and avid supporter of museums and zoos. He said he’s extremely honored to have this snake species named after him.
