Man from Sierra Leone Who Says He Fear Return There as Gay Is Detained so Files Habeas

COURTHOUSE,
Aug 24 –A man from Sierra
Leone who was granted deferral
of removal from the USA to
Sierra Leone under the
Convention Against Torture was
detained by ICE on August 24
in 26 Federal Plaza.

  He filed a
petition across Foley Square
in the U.S. District Court for
the Southern District of New
York, where Inner City Press
found it. 

 The
petition says he has leukemia,
and that no third country has
agreed to accept him.

 It says he
fear torture in Sierra Leone
on account of “his severe
mental illness and his
homosexual orientation.”

  The case
is Shaban v. Genalo, et al.,
1:26-cv-7226 (Unassigned)
