Reuters: Top Canada, US trade negotiators to meet again as deal deadline nears
Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott today issued the following statement on trade developments between the United States and Canada:
“Last week, the New England states and Eastern Canadian provinces came together in Vermont with a simple message: Our economies, communities and futures are deeply connected, and we’re stronger when we work together.
“I have long said imposing tariffs on Canada is a bad idea and harmful to Vermont. The President’s decision to delay new tariffs while the U.S. and Canada continue negotiations is relieving. I hope both sides use this opportunity to reach a lasting agreement that strengthens trade, provides certainty for businesses and families, and recognizes the enormous value of this partnership.
“As we said throughout the NEG-ECP meeting, disagreements will come and go. But Canada will always be our neighbor, friend, and ally — and maintaining this alliance is in the best interest of Vermont, the Northeast, and our country.”
