Rabat – Chinese textile manufacturer Shengtai Intelligent Manufacturing Group has obtained key approvals for a planned green textile industrial park in Morocco.
The company said its Shengtai (Morocco) Green Textile Industrial Park Project had received an Enterprise Overseas Investment Certificate from the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province.
The project also obtained a filing notice from the Hunan Provincial Development and Reform Commission.
The company said the project will produce high-grade cotton yarn, fabrics, and clothing. Its total estimated investment is capped at MAD 2.29 billion ($229 million), although the final amount will depend on the actual investment.
Shengtai said the project is expected to help it expand its global business, strengthen its overseas supply capacity, and improve its ability to respond to changes in international trade and industrial policies.
However, the company stressed that the project still faces several risks. Construction and investment will take a relatively long time, while additional approval procedures are still required.
The company also warned that changes in economic conditions, industry trends, management issues, or problems involving partners could delay, change, or even terminate the project.
Growing Chinese investment in Morocco
Shengtai’s planned investment comes as Morocco continues to attract Chinese companies seeking to establish production bases and access international markets.
Chinese investment has grown particularly in Morocco’s automotive and industrial sectors, with companies involved in electric vehicle batteries, components, and related manufacturing announcing major projects in recent years.
The textile industry is also becoming part of this trend, as Morocco’s proximity to European markets, free trade agreements, industrial infrastructure, and established manufacturing base make it an attractive location for export-oriented production.
