Boston is in for some periods of rains and seasonably warm temperatures throughout the upcoming week, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
“We’ll start out the week a little bit on the more unsettled side,” said NWS meteorologist Caitlyn Mensch. “So we do have a system coming in (Monday), going to bring periods of some showers, especially in the morning time frame. But we could even be seeing some showers continuing even through the afternoon, so it’s going to be a pretty unsettled day.”
Monday is expected to kick off with a high in the mid-70s in the Boston area, with early patchy fog rolling into a cloudy day, forecasts show.
Showers are likely throughout the day, NWS forecasts, with a slight chance continuing into the night Monday. It will not likely be “full steady rain all day,” Mensch said, but periods of showers and possible “brief heavier” downpours.
“As we head into Tuesday and Wednesday, those days lean on the drier side,,” Mensch said. “So we’re gonna be seeing temperatures pretty seasonable for this time of year.”
The high is forecasted to reach around the upper 70s Tuesday and climb to a slightly seasonable warm mid-80s peak on Wednesday, NWS states. Both days are likely to remain partly sunny to sunny throughout.
There could be some chance for scattered rain Tuesday, Mensch said.
“Definitely it won’t be a surprise if there’s a couple showers that you know, or maybe a weak storm that pops up on the radar later Tuesday in the afternoon and evening time frame,” said Mensch.
On Thursday, the high is expected to near 80 degrees, forecasts show, as skies remain partly sunny but a chance for rain returns.
“Unfortunately, as we head towards Thursday, that might be another day that could be on the more unsettled side,” Mensch said, noting “there’s a little bit of uncertainty with the system, given that we’re a couple days out right now.”
“But it’s looking like at least some places are going to get wet on Thursday, probably with the higher risk for areas south, like the Cape and the Islands, and even southern Rhode Island, possibly,” she continued.
Skies are forecasted to turn sunny once again Friday, as the high drops slightly around the upper 70s, NWS states.
Some areas closer to the Cape or along the eastern coast could see “more the unseasonably cool end” of highs headed into the weekend, Mensch said.
“As we head Friday through the weekend, we still have some uncertainty with what we could be seeing in terms of precipitation,” Mensch added. “It’s possible there could be a few periods of showers, but it’s not looking like there’s a signal for any type of a day of a washout at this point.”
There is also some possibility for rip currents throughout the early week, the meteorologist noted, with a moderate risk expected Monday and a potentially high risk Tuesday, especially for east facing beaches.
“Obviously it’s this time of year where the water’s warmer; a lot of people want to get their last vacation in before school starts,” said Mensch. “And the main thing is just to make sure you adhere to any instructions from your life on the lifeguard. Don’t swim if there’s any flags out there saying it’s not permitted to swim with rip currents. And even if there’s no signage that you can’t swim, definitely just be careful and be aware that rip currents can happen anywhere on the beach.”
