Burkina Faso’s Stallions Ladies return to make history at WAFCON 2026

After missing the 2024 tournament, Burkina Faso is back and ready to make history at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026.

Known as the Stallions Ladies, the team enters the continental showcase with renewed confidence, determined to push past the group stage for the first time

Burkina Faso booked their ticket to Morocco with a pair of brilliant qualifying performances. First, they swept past Burundi with a commanding 5-1 aggregate win, courtesy of a 4-1 victory in the opening leg followed by a 1-0 clean sheet.

They carried that winning momentum into the final qualifying round against Togo. The Stallions Ladies secured a solid 2-0 win in the first leg, sealing their qualification with another 1-0 victory, completing a comfortable 3-0 aggregate triumph.

The national team is led by head coach Pascal Sawadogo, a central figure in the growth of women’s football in Burkina Faso. Focusing heavily on youth development and long-term planning, Sawadogo has given the team a clear identity and helped rising stars shine on the international stage.

At just 22 years old, dynamic forward Adama Congo is one of the team’s brightest talents. After playing in Equatorial Guinea, she moved to Europe to test her skills in Spain with Dux Logrono and SE AEM Femeni.

Congo already holds a special place in her country’s football history. During the 2022 WAFCON, she scored Burkina Faso’s first-ever goal at the tournament during a thrilling 2-2 draw against Uganda. Her pace, clever movement and ability to stretch defences will be vital to the team’s success in Morocco.

Morocco 2026 marks Burkina Faso’s second appearance at the continental finals, following their debut in 2022. While they exited in the group stage during their first tournament, they gained valuable experience and earned their historic first point against Uganda.

Fun fact: Burkina Faso’s opening match against Morocco in 2022 made history back home as the first women’s international game broadcast live in prime time on national television.
