Benin: Joseph Djogbénou satisfied with the report of the first ordinary session of parliament –

The first ordinary session of the first legislative term of the National Assembly of Benin officially ended on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. This conclusion marks the end of three months of intensive work carried out by the deputies of the tenth legislature since the session began on April 15, 2026.

In a message reviewing the results of these twelve weeks of work, the president of the National Assembly, Joseph Fifamè Djogbénou, expressed a shared feeling of relief and satisfaction regarding the dedication of his colleagues and the results achieved.

A legislative report marked by several major reforms

During these three months, the National Representation examined and voted on several important texts aimed at strengthening public action and governance. Among the main laws adopted during this session are:

• The law on the execution of the state budget for the 2024 fiscal year;
• The amending finance law for the 2026 fiscal year;
• Several other laws with institutional, social, cultural, memorial, ecological, and environmental impact.

The final sessions in the chamber were particularly intense, with the unanimous adoption by the present and represented deputies of two major bills: the bill on the environment and the one concerning the Forestry and Wildlife Code.

A call for citizen ownership of the voted texts

While praising the diligence and collective commitment of the parliamentarians, the president of the institution urged citizens to take ownership of these new laws as soon as they come into effect. Joseph Fifamè Djogbénou also assured that the National Assembly would take concrete initiatives to ensure wide dissemination of legislative production so that it effectively serves the collective well-being of the populations.
