The story
Rushine de Reuck has taken time to look back on a memorable 2025/26 campaign with Simba SC, sharing an emotional message of gratitude after leading the Tanzanian giants as captain in Steve Barker’s first season in charge.
The Bafana Bafana centre-back reflected on a campaign that saw Simba lift both the Muungano Cup and the CRDB Bank Federation Cup. Although the club narrowly missed out on the Tanzanian Premier League title, De Reuck said the season was one filled with pride and valuable memories.
Taking to Instagram, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Maritzburg United defender thanked everyone who played a role in the team’s journey, while expressing how much it meant to captain one of East Africa’s biggest clubs.
Take a look:
“As the season comes to an end, I just want to say how incredibly proud I am to have captained this amazing team. Lifting two trophies together is something we’ll always cherish, and it’s a reward for the hard work, commitment, and belief we’ve shown throughout the season.”
The 30-year-old also reserved special praise for the Simba faithful, acknowledging the role supporters played throughout a demanding campaign.
“A huge thank you to our incredible fans. Your unwavering support, through every high and every challenge, gave us the strength to keep pushing. This wasn’t an easy season, but having you behind us made all the difference.”
After another busy season abroad, the 17-cap Bafana Bafana international is now looking forward to some well-earned downtime back home in South Africa before preparing for the challenges that lie ahead.
Closing his heartfelt message, De Reuck vowed that Simba would return with even greater determination next season.
“Now it’s time to recover, enjoy some well-deserved time with our families, and recharge. We’ll be back next season, hungrier, stronger, and ready to give everything once again. Thank you for being part of this journey.”
Having added two more trophies to his growing collection of major honours, while leading from the back, five-time Betway Premiership winner De Reuck will head into the off-season with plenty to celebrate before turning his attention to another campaign with Simba under Barker’s guidance.
