World Missionary Press says its Scripture booklet ministry continues to reach remote communities in Papua New Guinea, where missionaries recently received unexpected help after distributing materials at a village school.
The ministry’s Helen Williams said Papua New Guinea presents unique challenges for missionaries.
“The population is spread out pretty far. There are 800 indigenous languages, and so many different islands,” Williams said.
Located in the South Pacific, Papua New Guinea includes a mainland and hundreds of islands. Much of the country’s rugged terrain and limited transportation infrastructure make travel to remote communities difficult.
Unexpected flight home
During a recent outreach, World Missionary Press partners distributed Scripture booklets at a local school. When it came time to leave, difficult terrain made the return trip uncertain, Williams said.
“As the team was wrapping up their session in the school, the sky echoed with a familiar sound, and it was the drone of an aircraft approaching,” Williams said.
“Missionaries looked up, and a Mission Aviation Fellowship plane touched down. All of a sudden, there was the opportunity for the missionaries to return.”

According to Williams, the pilot had been delivering cargo to a contact in the village.
“The team quickly made their way to the landing site; they negotiated with the pilot for a fair price to help them get home,” Williams said.
Williams said the missionaries viewed the unexpected arrival as God’s provision.
“As the aircraft ascended, the missionaries reflected on how God had orchestrated their journey. The flight home was filled with gratitude and awe, as most of the boys were flying for the first time,” she said.
Continuing the ministry
World Missionary Press hopes to send another container of Scripture booklets to its ministry partners in Papua New Guinea as the outreach continues.
“The whole point of all of this is to share God’s love and His word and His salvation with a world that does not know that even exists,” Williams said.
“If you listen to the news, the world is in chaos, but I can tell you God is working. People are coming to know Him. Villages are being changed.”
