Maiteeg: Military track must move from dialogue to implementation with one government, one budget, and one army

Former Libyan Prime Minister Ahmed Maiteeg said the meeting held in Sirte between Khalifa Haftar’s forces and the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army in western Libya represents a positive step that should be built upon to advance military unification and strengthen stability in the country.

In a press statement, Maiteeg said the current phase requires moving beyond meetings and dialogue toward practical implementation through a clear roadmap based on genuine national partnership and serious political will, ensuring that these efforts produce tangible results that improve the lives of Libyan citizens.

He said the success of this process depends on moving away from temporary solutions and restructuring the military institution on national and professional foundations, free from political polarization and narrow interests, while translating meetings into concrete steps that enhance security and stability and prevent any renewed division.

Maiteeg added that Libyans are no longer waiting for promises but for practical measures that have a direct impact on their daily lives, stressing that the clarity of the next steps and the seriousness of their implementation will be the true measure of the process’s success.

He renewed his call for the unification of Libya’s state institutions, saying that achieving one government, one budget, and one army is the cornerstone of building state institutions, restoring stability, and advancing development. He urged all parties to prioritize the national interest and work toward a future defined by security and unity.
