Taiz – A new health statistic has revealed 30 deaths and 5,786 confirmed cases of dengue fever in areas under the control of Yemen’s internationally recognized government between January and June 2026.
Tayseer al-Samie, media officer at the Public Health Office in Taiz, said the fatalities were spread across five governorates.
Aden topped the list with 15 deaths, followed by Hadramout (7), Taiz and Lahj (3 each), and Shabwa (2).
According to the report, the total number of confirmed infections reached 5,786 during the first six months of the year.
Annual figures from the Ministry of Health show that government-held areas recorded 15,094 dengue cases in 2025.
Taiz accounted for the highest number with 4,233 cases, followed by Aden (2,803), Abyan (2,086), Lahj (1,896), Shabwa (1,885), and Marib (848). Other governorates also reported hundreds of cases, including Mukalla (558), al-Mahra (268), al-Dhalea (209), Hodeidah (128), Seiyun (89), al-Bayda (48), and Socotra (41).
Total deaths in 2025 reached 64, distributed across six governorates. Aden recorded 39 fatalities, Lahj 20, Marib 2, while Taiz, Abyan, and al-Dhalea reported one each.
The latest figures highlight the continuing public health challenge posed by dengue fever in Yemen, where years of conflict have severely weakened the healthcare system and hindered effective disease control.
