Iraq Prepares for Historic Funeral Procession of Martyred Leader Ayatollah Khamenei


The procession, expected to draw millions, will take place in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, serving as a powerful testament to the enduring bonds between the peoples of Iran and Iraq.

 

To facilitate the expected massive turnout, the Iraqi government has declared Wednesday, July 8, an official public holiday across eight provinces: Baghdad, Najaf, Babil, Dhi Qar, Basra, Wasit, Maysan, and Muthanna.

 

The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) have announced a comprehensive security plan to safeguard the proceedings. Brigadier General Ali al-Hamdani, commander of the PMF’s Middle Euphrates operations, confirmed that 30,000 personnel have been mobilized to ensure order and security in Najaf and Karbala.

“We are fulfilling a historic responsibility in welcoming the body of the Martyred Leader,” stated Al-Hamdani. He noted that extensive logistical support is in place, with Husseini service

 

mawkibs (service stations) prepared to provide food, water, and essential services to mourners, while fleets of ambulances and emergency medical units are stationed along the procession routes.

 

Following ceremonies in Iran, the sacred remains will be transferred to Najaf. The procession will commence at the Holy Shrine of Imam Ali (AS) and proceed toward Karbala, where a major memorial service will be held in the area between the two Holy Shrines (Bayn al-Haramayn).

Following these rites, the remains will be flown from Najaf International Airport to Mashhad, Iran, to be laid to rest at the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS).

 

Sayyid Ammar al-Hakim, leader of the National Wisdom Movement (Al-Hikmah), has issued a rallying call to the Iraqi people to participate in the funeral in large numbers.

 

Al-Hakim described the anticipated massive attendance as a clear message of solidarity and a profound expression of the unbreakable historical and spiritual link shared between the Iranian and Iraqi nations.

 

The farewell and funeral procession of the martyred Leader began with a three-day ceremony in the capital Tehran on July4-6, ensued with a funeral at the holy city of Qom on July 7.
